Why am I matching the wrong airline? What is an IATA duplicate?

Unfortunately it is true that two airlines can have the same IATA code. The airlines are generally in different regions. But it does happen since there are only a limited number of two-letter codes available.

If you search our APIs with the default settings, the search order is IATA, ICAO, then FlightStats Code. We recommend customers always search by the FlightStats Code to avoid matching the wrong airline.

We recommend once every 1-2 weeks customers download the airline reference data to keep their systems up-to-date of additions/mergers/bankruptcies in the airline industry.
